Phrasal Verb: stop over

To stop over is to interrupt a journey and stop somewhere for a short time, especially overnight.

Examples of use:

I. We stopped over in Amsterdam for one night on our flight from Greece to the UK.

2. I would like to stop over in Chicago for a couple of days on my way to Seattle.

3. She is looking forward to stopping over at her grandmother's house on her way to university.

 

stopover (noun) a break in one's journey.

Example of use:

We had a two-day stopover in Paris on our way to Barcelona.
