Phrasal verb: fizzle out

When something fizzles out, it gradually ends or disappears, especially in a disappointing way.

Informal English.

Examples of use:

1. The firework display fizzled out early and we all went home.

2. The job offers fizzled out after a few weeks.

3. The party had fizzled out by 10pm.

4. The housing boom will fizzle out in 2012.
